MetaTrader 5 (MT5) is a popular platform for forex and CFD trading, offering a wide range of features and tools for both beginner and experienced traders. Below is a comprehensive guide on how to trade using different MT5 terminals: Desktop MT5 and Mobile MT5.
Before you start, ensure you have the necessary credentials for your trading account. You can find these details by referring to the article: Where to Find Details of My Trading Account?.
1) Install MT5
For Windows or Mac:
- Download MT5 from the JustMarkets website:
- Launch the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the MT5 terminal.
- Once the installation is complete, MT5 will open automatically.
2) Log in
- Click "File" > "Login to Trade Account."
- Select the correct server from the list.
- Enter your login (trading account number) and password.
3) Switching Accounts
- If you previously ticked "Save account information," your login and password will be saved.
- Click "File" > "Login to Trade Account."
- Select the account number from the dropdown list and click "Login."
Alternatively, use Navigator ("CTRL+N" or "View" > "Navigator"), select "Accounts," then double-click on the account and click "Login."
4) Add and Remove Instruments
- Add Instrument:
- Right-click on the Market Watch window.
- Select "Symbols."
- Choose from the list of symbol groups or enter the symbol name in the search field.
- Click on an instrument and select "Show Symbol."
NOTE: You could display all trading instruments with a single button, right-click on the Market Watch and select “Show All” option from the list.
- Remove Instrument:
- Right-click on an instrument in the Market Watch.
- Click "Hide."
5) How to Open Orders?
There are several possible options to open a new order:
- Click "New Order" (F9) in the toolbar.
- Right-click on the Market Watch and select "New Order."
- Double-click the trading instrument in the Market Watch.
- Select "Tools" from the top menu and click "New Order."
In the New Order Window:
- Select the trading instrument.
- Indicate the Volume of the order.
- Specify Stop Loss and Take Profit levels (optional).
- Select the type of order (Market or Pending order).
- Select the Type of the order, indicate the price and the expiry date (Pending orders only).
- Click "Sell by Market," "Buy by Market," or "Place" (for Pending orders).
NOTE: You can enable one-click trading in order to open orders from the chart directly. Right-click on the chart and select “One click trading”. This will enable a small window on your chart with the option to specify Lot and open Buy or Sell order.
6) Closing Orders
In order to close trades, find your order in the Trade tab (CTRL+T) and perform one of the following:
- Double-click on it and select “Close by market”.
- Right-click and select “Close”.
- Click the “X” button on the right of the order.
In order to close hedged orders, follow this instruction:
- Double-click on the Order
- In Type select Close by option
- Select another order opened for the same trading instrument
- Click “Close position by” button
NOTE: The Close By operation allows traders to simultaneously close two opposite positions of the same financial instrument. If opposite positions have different lot values, only one of them will be left open with the volume equal to the difference between the lot values of the two positions.
Bulk operations that are available only for MT5 will help you to close multiple orders at once:
- Right-click on the order
- Find Bulk Operations and select one of the options:
- Close All Positions: Closes all open positions for all instruments.
- Close Profitable Positions: Closes all positions with profitable result.
- Close Losing Positions: Closes all positions with losing result.
- Close Sell/Buy Positions: Closes all positions with the same order type only.
- Close “Symbol” Positions: Closes all positions for the same symbol/instrument only.
- Close “Type” “Symbol” Positions: Closes all positions with the same order type for the same symbol/instrument only.
- Close by “Symbol”: Closes hedged positions for the same symbol/instrument using the Close By function.
7) Modify or Delete Orders
- Double-click on the order and select "Modify position" or right-click and select "Modify or Delete."
- Set up SL and TP levels.
- Click "Modify."
8) Opening the Journal
Options:
- In the bottom Terminal (CTRL+T), select “Journal” to see all your current logs.
- Click “File” > “Open Data Folder” and find Logs.
For Expert Advisor logs:
- In the bottom Terminal (CTRL+T), select Experts.
- Click “File” > “Open Data Folder”, go to MQL5 > Logs.
1) Install MT5
For Android or iOS:
- Download MT5 from the JustMarkets website:
- You will be redirected to the Play Market or App Store.
- Install it on your device.
2) Log in
Open the MT5 app.
- Tap "Accept" on the welcome message, then "X" to Open a demo account message (For Android). Go to "Settings" and tap "New account" (For iOS).
- Find and select the broker: "Just Global Markets Ltd."
- Enter your login (trading account number) and password, select the correct server, and click "Login."
3) Switching Accounts
- Open the main menu and select "Manage Accounts" (for Android) or go to "Settings" (for iOS).
- Select one of the trading accounts and enter your credentials.
- Click "Sign in."
4) Add and Remove Instruments
Add Instrument (Android):
- Tap on the "Quotes" icon.
- Tap the "+" icon.
- Find and tap the instrument to add it to the Quotes list.
Add Instrument (iOS):
- Go to "Quotes."
- Tap the search bar to open the list of instruments.
- Tap the "+" icon beside the instrument to add it.
Remove Instrument:
- Tap the "Quotes" icon.
- Tap the "Pencil" icon.
- Tap the "Bin” icon, select the instruments to delete, and tap the bin icon again.
5) Open and Modify Chart
Open the Chart:
- In the "Quotes" tab, tap the instrument.
- Select "Chart."
Change Chart Type:
- Open the Chart.
- Tap the chart, then tap the "Settings" icon.
- Choose from Bar chart, Candlestick, or Line chart.
Modify Chart
Tap the chart in order to open a menu with the following options:
- Timeframe of the chart (M1, M5, M15, M30, H1, H4, D1, W1, and MN).
- Curve line icon will allow you to add Indicators to the chart.
- Cross sign enables a crosshair to observe the exact price on the chart.
- Geometrical objects will open a menu where you can add objects to your Chart.
- Rectangular icon will open the option to open several charts.
6) How to Open Orders?
Options:
- Go to "Quotes", tap the instrument, and click "New Order."
- On the Chart window, click the "one click trading" button.
- On the Trade window, click the "new order" button.
In the New Order Window:
- Select Market Execution or a pending order.
- Indicate the Lot Volume.
- Set Stop Loss and Take Profit levels.
- Click "Sell", "Buy", or "Place" (for pending order).
7) Closing Orders
- Tap the "Trade" icon.
- Find your order, tap and hold it.
- Select "Close position" and confirm.
In order to close hedged orders, follow this instruction:
- Find your order, tap and hold it.
- In Type select Close by option.
- Select another order opened for the same trading instrument.
- Click the “Close by” button.
You can also use Bulk Operations in mobile MT5:
- Find your order, tap and hold it.
- Tap Bulk Operations and select one of the available options.
8) Modify or Delete Orders
- Tap the "Trade" icon.
- Find your order, tap and hold it.
- Select "Modify position."
- Change your SL or TP level and click "Modify.
9) Opening the Journal
- Open the main menu.
- Tap "Journal" and select the relevant dates.
